Singapore Grand Prix: Unique and spectacular!
Singapore Grand Prix: Unique and spectacular!
The very first Singapore Grand Prix was both spectacular and unique. Unique in the sense it was the very first Formula One night race ever. Spectacular in the sense that Philippe Massa lost the race because he drove away from the pits with the fuel tube still attached on his car. Big winner after 61 laps was Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg came in second and Lewis Hamilton complements the winner’s podium.
Singapore Grand Prix: 110.000 spectators!
The timing of the Singapore Grand Prix was mostly adjusted for live broadcasting at a convenient broadcast time in Europe. The track was illuminated with projectors that fully adapted to match the shape of the course. The race was co-funded by the Government of Singapore who paid 60% of the total bill. More than 110.000 tickets were sold so the Government of Singapore probably will earn their investments back in no-time.
